Trinity Transportation Donates Buses to Wayne State University’s Baseball Camp

Monday, July 9th, 2018

At the end of June, Wayne State University put on their annual week-long baseball camp in partnership with the Detroit Tigers and Trinity Transportation! Kids ages 7-18 came from all around the Metro Detroit area to advance their baseball skills and learn from the best at this camp. The participating kids visited Comerica Park where they were able to go onto the field for batting practice, received a special tour, and spent time with the players and coaches. The camp ended with the participating kids receiving a tour of WSU’s campus and spending time with WSU’s baseball players and coaches who taught the campers new drills and exercises and showed them what it’s like to be a collegiate athlete. We are proud to support our future baseball players by providing the transportation for this annual camp!

WSU head coach Ryan Kelley said, “It was an exciting and action-packed week of baseball at our annual summer camp. We hope all participants enjoyed spending their time with us in a combined MLB and NCAA environment in our great baseball city of Detroit! I would like to thank the Detroit Tigers Foundation for outstanding leadership, support, and a commitment to helping provide a great experience for all participants. I would also like to thank all of our camp staff, which included current and former NCAA baseball student-athletes, high school coaches, select youth coaches, and former professional baseball players. Plus, Trinity Transportation was instrumental in helping with our ground transportation during camp. On behalf of our camp staff, I would like to wish all participants a great deal of success on and off the field for the remainder of this summer and look forward to seeing you again at future events.”

The week filled with baseball was a success and we are so happy to have been a part of it!

Trinity Transportation Acquires Contract with Schools in Northwest Detroit

Tuesday, June 26th, 2018

We are excited to announce that Trinity Transportation has become the transportation provider for six schools in the Detroit Public Schools Community District and four charter schools in northwest Detroit! Trinity’s buses will take students to and from school and to and from after-school programs at the Northwest Activities Center. In an effort to keep security high, the city will be implementing a card-swiping system on the buses and at the Northwest Activities Center. This system will send text messages to parents when their children enter and exit the school bus, and when they go to and from after-school programs. As with a lot of our current routes, the buses for these schools will have two adults on board at all times: a driver and an attendant. We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Detroit Public Schools and look forward to helping with the growth of our future students!

Safety Rules Are the Best Tools!

Tuesday, May 29th, 2018

Our safety meetings for May were conducted the 21st through 26th and were packed with vital information for our drivers and aides! The meetings were executed by Dave Holls, chief operating officer, and Carl Ingram, Detroit area safety director. Our safety meetings always start with a little introduction then local news and updates from each terminal’s general manager and maintenance department.

After the local updates, Dave talked about distracted driving and showed a news video regarding a recent school bus accident in New Jersey. This horrific accident was caused by a driver who was recklessly driving on the interstate, and is an instance of what could happen when someone is driving distracted. It is not worth the risk. This is why our parent company, National Express, implemented the Target Zero campaign in February. Target Zero is the next phase of our Driving out Harm program and was put in to effect to eliminate fatal accidents from our company. Target Zero is a call to action that encompasses all of our efforts to reduce distracted driving and make the roads safer for our communities.

To piggy-back off of safe driving habits, Dave discussed performance feedback for the month of April. After Dave went over the numbers, Carl reviewed the Driving out Harm program and reiterated the Golden Rules for our drivers (they’re listed in this blog post). Carl then addressed our company’s safety performance KPIs (key performance indicators) for the month of April and talked about the heat risks of summer as the new season approaches. He covered the symptoms of heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hyperthermia, and dehydration and how to prevent them. Carl also mentioned how there will be more people on the roads since school will be out soon and discussed different ways drivers can be more alert to the extra bicyclists, pedestrians, cars, and motorcyclists.

An acronym our company uses to ensure safe driving habits is LEFTS:

Let others know your intentions by signaling

Ensure oncoming traffic is clear; do not rush

Fully check your blind spots by leaning forward and backward (rock and roll)

Turn only when you are sure there are no pedestrians in or about to enter the intersection

Stay alert; look around and recheck your mirrors during your turn

Summer is also the season of roadside inspections by Michigan State Police, so Carl covered the various responsibilities drivers have, including carrying their credentials at all times, completing thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and being extra aware of their surroundings.

To finish the presentation, Dave returned to remind drivers of our upcoming company activities. First is attendance bingo, where employees get a stamp for every date on their card for which they have perfect attendance during the month of May. Once an employee has a bingo, they turn in their card and have three chances to win awesome prizes, the ultimate grand prize being a 55” Smart LED TV with a Blu-Ray player and complete sound system! Second is our first annual Detroit Tigers company outing, which is taking place on June 2nd. If you’re at that game, keep a look out for a large group with purple shirts – that’s us! And lastly, Dave announced Trinity’s 22nd annual company picnic, where we have food, fun, and prizes!

We’re excited for the fun things ahead and to continue with our safety mission!

It’s Time to Fly!

Thursday, May 24th, 2018

The holidays are approaching, and that means vacations are coming! We know getting ready for vacations can be hectic and stressful, but we’re ready to take some of the stress away by being your go-to airport transportation. With our array of vehicles, we can accommodate your every need, from small to large groups, along with handicap accessible vehicles.

If you have yet to book your transportation, we walk you through that process in this article. Once you’ve gone through those steps, your vehicle will be booked and you’ll be all set for your trip! If you’ve booked transportation to the airport, on the day of your trip, your driver will arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled pick-up time. This is to allow enough time for you to get your things together and meet your driver outside of your pick-up location. The driver will then take you to the departures section at the airport and help you unload your luggage with a sendoff for a great expedition!

If you’re booking transportation from the airport, we ask that you do it at least 24 hours in advance. Upon arrival at the airport, your driver will meet you in the arrivals section by the baggage claim. Your driver will help you carry your luggage to their vehicle, which will be parked in the parking structure. Once you are all situated in the vehicle, you will be off to your destination!

Booking your airport transportation with Trinity is the one ingredient that will provide relaxing travel time for you and your guests. We can’t wait to help make your trip the best it can be!

We’re Going on a Field Trip!

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

Field trips are a fun way to educate children in a non-classroom setting, a break from the everyday norm, but we understand that planning an outing for 20+ students may be a tad stressful, so we want to make the process a little less stressful. We’re going to walk you through what happens once you book your field trip and what you can expect the day of and after!

What to Expect After Booking

After you request a quote and book your trip, one of our reservations specialists will contact you to confirm all details and information are correct and make any needed changes. They will also ask if you have any special requests you would like the driver to know, such as a special pick-up or drop-off location or someone other than you as the main contact for the day of the field trip. Our reservations specialists will contact you again 24 hours before your field trip to ensure everything is good to go and to make any last-minute accommodations necessary.

Day-Of Process

This process is pretty simple! The driver will pick you up in the booked vehicle at the discussed pick-up time and location. You will then be transported to your destination for your field trip. After the field trip is over, you will be taken back to your pick-up location, unless otherwise specified. If for some reason your field trip goes over the scheduled time, you will be charged a late fee that is based on your hourly rate.

After Your Field Trip

If everything goes according to schedule, you will be all set after the day of your field trip! Our reservations specialists may reach out to you to see how everything went and for feedback about your trip.

Trinity Transportation Recognizes Love the Bus Month

Thursday, March 1st, 2018

Love the Bus month was created by the American School Bus Council and is a month-long celebration held every February. Love the Bus Month is a chance to highlight the importance of the school bus in education while also focusing on the drivers who do so much for our students. This month allows schools across America to take a little extra time to celebrate the bus drivers who safely transport students every day. It’s also an opportunity for companies like us to show our appreciation for our school bus drivers, whom we are so lucky to have! This year, we gave employees heart decals and pins to signify Love the Bus Month and showed extra gratitude for all that they do.
