Getting ready to go back to school is a fun and exciting time for most families, from finding out who will be your child’s teacher for the year to buying new supplies and clothing; however, for some families, this time is more of a challenging one. Financial struggles and access to certain amenities can be a burden during the preparation for each new school year, but Operation Backpack is determined to change that. Every year, Operation Backpack provides backpacks filled with school supplies, toiletries, and reusable water bottles to children in need so they can have the necessary items to be prepared and ready to learn.
Trinity Transportation was proud to donate backpacks for this year’s Back to School Rally put on by Operation Backpack for River Rouge schools. The event was held at River Rouge High School on Friday, August 24th, 2018, and was full of families having fun and enjoying the last of summer break. There were bounce houses with slides, free food and bottled water, various vendors, free haircuts, backpacks filled with supplies being handed out, and much more! Home Depot was giving kids aprons to wear and write their names on and had a table where kids could create their very own toolboxes!
The River Rouge Back to School Rally was a great success and we are so honored to have been a partner!

On June 6th, 2018, River Rouge School District hosted their annual Student of the Month event where students were honored for their academic excellence. Trinity Transportation was in attendance and donated 10 laptops to graduating seniors. The event was held at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan, where dinner and refreshments were served to attendees.
The evening was full of gratitude for administrators, parents, corporate partners, and staff for all of their hard work throughout the school year. The students also received from the principals of their individual schools recognition for going above and beyond this school year.
When it was time for the principal of River Rouge High School to make his speech, he acknowledged the students form each grade, saving the seniors for last. The seniors were commended for their academic achievements, then the announcement was made that Trinity would be giving laptops to the graduating seniors. These students are attending colleges across the country, including Howard University, Eastern Michigan University, Tennessee State University, Wayne State University, and Henry Ford College, and majoring in various subjects such as pre-nursing, pre-law, and robotics. Dave Holls, chief operating officer at Trinity, took to the podium to congratulate all of the students and to hand out the laptops to the seniors.
Trinity Transportation is proud to have worked with River Rouge Schools and honored to be their community partner for over a decade, providing them with safe and reliable transportation while also investing in the children of our community!

Field trips are a fun way to educate children in a non-classroom setting, a break from the everyday norm, but we understand that planning an outing for 20+ students may be a tad stressful, so we want to make the process a little less stressful. We’re going to walk you through what happens once you book your field trip and what you can expect the day of and after!
What to Expect After Booking
After you request a quote and book your trip, one of our reservations specialists will contact you to confirm all details and information are correct and make any needed changes. They will also ask if you have any special requests you would like the driver to know, such as a special pick-up or drop-off location or someone other than you as the main contact for the day of the field trip. Our reservations specialists will contact you again 24 hours before your field trip to ensure everything is good to go and to make any last-minute accommodations necessary.
Day-Of Process
This process is pretty simple! The driver will pick you up in the booked vehicle at the discussed pick-up time and location. You will then be transported to your destination for your field trip. After the field trip is over, you will be taken back to your pick-up location, unless otherwise specified. If for some reason your field trip goes over the scheduled time, you will be charged a late fee that is based on your hourly rate.
After Your Field Trip
If everything goes according to schedule, you will be all set after the day of your field trip! Our reservations specialists may reach out to you to see how everything went and for feedback about your trip.

National School Bus Safety Week is an educational program that encourages students, faculty, parents, and anyone interested to learn about and spread the significance of school bus safety. This week is important for publicizing the safety procedures and dangers associated with school bus transportation.
National School Bus Safety Week takes place every year during the third week of October. This year, October 16th through 20th was National School Bus Safety Week, and Trinity participated by practicing and reviewing school bus safety! This year’s theme was “Stop on Red”, a reminder to always stop when a school bus’s stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing.
Trinity Transportation’s school bus drivers and aides attended Special Saturday on October 14th to kick off National School Bus Safety Week. The day consisted of different classes and training focused on children with special needs, including bus evacuations, learning about children with different disabilities, positive approach to behavior management, and team building strategies.
School bus safety is extremely important, not only for students and bus drivers, but for parents, automobile drivers, and pedestrians. For more information about school bus safety, check out our article!

The school year has started, which means children and school buses are on the road every morning and afternoon…so it’s time to talk about back to school safety! School buses are one of the safest transportation vehicles, but there are hazards to be aware of when kids are getting on and off of the bus, and while walking to the bus stop.
If you are driving:
- Do not double park – it blocks the field of vision for children and other vehicles
- Don’t pick up or drop off children across the street from their school
- Carpool if you can to decrease the number of automobiles at the school
- Don’t block the crosswalk! This could put pedestrians in the path of moving vehicles
- Never go around a vehicle that is stopped for pedestrians
- Use extra caution when driving in school zones, in residential areas, and by playgrounds/parks – children may be nearby
- Take an extra look when backing out – children could be walking or bicycling by
- Be aware of school bus signals. Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is coming to a stop to drop off or pick up children. All vehicles must slow down and come to a stop. Red flashing lights and an extended stop sign mean the bus is stopped and the children are getting onto the bus or off of it. Drivers must also stop and remain at least ten feet away, not starting up again until the bus’s red flashing lights are off, the stop sign has been returned, and the bus starts moving
- If there is a bicyclist driving on the side of the road, pass slowly and remain at least three feet away from the bicyclist
- If a bicyclist is approaching while you are turning right, brake and let them go through first – and always use your turn signal
- Keep an eye out for bicyclists riding/turning in front of you without looking or signaling
If you are a pedestrian:
- Be early – aim to be at your bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival of the bus
- Stand a safe distance away from the street (six or more feet) while waiting and when the bus arrives
- Do not move towards the bus until the bus driver opens the door and signals to proceed onto the bus
- Be visible at all times! If you must cross the street in front of the bus, walk up the street 10 feet or so before crossing, and make sure the bus driver sees you. Never walk behind the bus.
- If you drop something by the bus, inform your bus driver. Do not try to pick it up as you may not be in your driver’s line of sight
Safety is extremely important. If we all take the necessary precautions, it will be a safe school year for everyone! Happy back to school!

For some families, getting ready to go back to school can be a stressful time. Between purchasing backpacks and school supplies to clothes and shoes, it can be hard to cover the costs. This is where Operation Backpack steps in. Operation Backpack provides backpacks filled with school supplies, toiletries, and water bottles to children in need so they can enter the school year prepared and ready to learn.
Trinity Transportation was proud to provide backpacks for the Operation Backpack Back to School Rally on Friday, August 25th, 2017, at River Rouge High School. The event was packed with families enjoying all of the fun activities on a nice summer day. There were three bounce houses with slides, free food and bottled water, school information (and information from various vendors), a slush machine, and much more. Paws from the Detroit Tigers even made an appearance! Home Depot handed out boats for the kids to build and aprons for them to wear (and write their names on!), and Metro PCS was taking individual photos and printing them off with a special frame for families to take home.
Tarence Wheeler, Operation Backpack organizer, said of the event: “Because of our great partnership with Trinity Transportation, we provided over 1,500 backpacks stuffed with school supplies & toiletries for students. We know that student success is predicated on adult participation. Collectively we can alleviate all non-academic barriers.”
The River Rouge Operation Backpack rally was extremely successful and we are honored to have been a partner!

It’s back-to-school season, which means it’s time for Trinity Transportation’s annual Back to School meeting! Every year, Trinity hosts a meeting before the school year starts to review safety, protocol, and procedures with our school bus drivers and aides.
“Each year, Trinity brings together all school bus division employees from our 10 locations to have a combined back-to-school meeting in preparation of the new school year,” stated Regional Operations Manager, Dave Holls. “This meeting allows all of our employees to receive combined training, learn about changes to employee benefits and company improvements, and allow us time to acknowledge and celebrate our accomplishments and success.

“This year we had over 500 employees in attendance for our meeting – the most ever! As Trinity continues to grow, and is now part of the National Express family of companies, we continue to be able to offer new and exciting benefits and tools for our employees. Our back to school meeting allows us to review all of these new improvements and prepare our staff for the goals and objectives of the new school year.”
Kicking off the meeting was Trinity Transportation President, Jerry Sheppard, who gave a welcoming speech to the crowd. He addressed how successful Trinity has been, how fast we are growing, and the resources we’ll acquire upon finishing the merge with National Express.
The day continued with two National Express executives and several Trinity Transportation executives and managers speaking on important policies, safety, branding, customer service, employee appreciation, and marketing.
From Chief Operating Officer, Austin Arksey: “Our Back to School meeting this year was a great success with our biggest turnout to date. There was a lot of excitement amongst our school bus drivers and aides for the new school year! Between the merge with National Express and the growing of Trinity Transportation, we’re ready to utilize every resource to make this year one of the best.”
At the end of the day, employees had the chance to play “Spin the Wheel”, where over $600 in Visa gift cards were given away! Three employees had golden tickets under their chairs, which won them each an Apple Watch!

It’s August, which means it’s back-to-school time! With summer coming to a close, it is the time to buy new supplies and to get in the spirit of learning.
In preparation of the school year, Trinity Transportation is proud to partner with Lakeview Public Schools to “Stuff the Bus”! We have been a part of this event for over five years, providing one of our school buses to be filled with donated school supplies. Donations of new backpacks, pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks, glue sticks, folders, rulers, etc., will be accepted from August 14th – 25th at 27575 Harper (Wheat Educational Campus). These items will be given to children at Lakeview Public Schools to assist with needed school supplies for the year.

Depending on who you ask, the most important night of a high school student’s life can vary. Most parents will tell you that their child’s graduation night is the most special event for them. But if you ask their children, they will most likely tell you…prom night!
Usually the first thing on the list for prom is the young lady’s dress or the young man’s tuxedo. But after that, all they can think about is that sweet ride to and from the prom venue!
The search for prom transportation will usually begin with, get ready – limousines. Now this is perfectly acceptable, but let’s be honest, do you really want to settle for “acceptable” on one of the most important nights of your high school life?
If you’re looking to set your group of friends apart from everyone else, then you should consider booking a motor coach bus. Here’s why:
- Fit all of your friends on board – Most limousines will be able to accommodate 12-20 passengers. When booking a motor coach bus with Trinity Transportation, you can book as small as a 25 passenger mini coach and as big as a 56 passenger full sized motor coach. That way more of your friends can join your prom party and help cover the cost. And considering most of the young ladies will be wearing “larger than life” dresses, you’ll appreciate the extra space versus a narrow limo.
- Quality equipment guaranteed – Most limousine services only run their vehicles within a certain mile radius. But a lot of motor coach companies take their vehicles all over the country, which means they have to be equipped with high quality parts and must be able to withstand thousands of miles at a time. Now we know your prom is probably no more than 30 minutes away from the pick-up point, but knowing that you’ve booked a vehicle that is heavy duty and with a company that is an expert in repairs or solving break down issues will give you a sense of relief. Also, there’s a bathroom included!
- Show up like a rock star – While everyone is pulling up into their standard stretch limo, you and your friends can roll up in your motor coach bus (Ok, I guess we can call it a party bus for one night!). A lot of students attending prom don’t just want to have fun at the venue but also on the way there. The party bus will allow students to hook up their own music and have a great a time as soon as they get picked up. Trinity offers a 56 passenger motor coach, our 25-35 mini coaches, and if you feel the need to still get a little bit of that “limo feel” for your prom, we also offer a 28 passenger black limo bus.
Trinity Transportation has a strict “no drinking” policy for underage students and our drivers are trained to enforce this policy by working with parents to ensure their children behave in a safe and responsible manner while traveling to and from the prom venue.
