Trinity Transportation Supports Local Blessings in a Backpack

Wednesday, March 6th, 2019

Blessings in a Backpack is a community-based program that is designed to help meet the weekend nutritional needs of children and families. Each week, meals are provided to “at-risk” students, which are students participating in the government subsidized free or reduced fee hot lunch program. The goal of the Blessings in a Backpack program is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove the barriers to academic success.

Since its inception in 2012, Trinity Transportation has been providing the busing for Blessings in a Backpack Wyandotte. Every week, 3,000 meals are put together by the students at JoBrighton Skills Center and The Lincoln Center. The food items are delivered by Meijer to JoBrighton and Lincoln. Upon delivery, the students unload the truck, shelve the items, and take inventory. After the items are sorted, the students put together six meals each for 500 students, which equals out to 3 meals per day for the weekend. Once the meals are put together and sorted into bins by school, our buses deliver the bins full of meals to their respective schools.

Every Friday, one of our buses picks up students from JoBrighton and The Lincoln Center and brings them to each school in the Wyandotte School District to deliver the meals. Once the students arrive at the school, they distribute the meals by locker number, hanging the meal bags in the locker of the appropriate student. Once all meals are delivered, the students return to the bus with the meal bins.

We’re proud to be a part of this positive program and assist in nourishing the students in our Wyandotte community. To learn more about Blessings in a Backpack and how you can contribute to the program, please visit http://www.blessingsinabackpackmi.org/.

Trinity Transportation Donates Buses to Wayne State University’s Baseball Camp

Monday, July 9th, 2018

At the end of June, Wayne State University put on their annual week-long baseball camp in partnership with the Detroit Tigers and Trinity Transportation! Kids ages 7-18 came from all around the Metro Detroit area to advance their baseball skills and learn from the best at this camp. The participating kids visited Comerica Park where they were able to go onto the field for batting practice, received a special tour, and spent time with the players and coaches. The camp ended with the participating kids receiving a tour of WSU’s campus and spending time with WSU’s baseball players and coaches who taught the campers new drills and exercises and showed them what it’s like to be a collegiate athlete. We are proud to support our future baseball players by providing the transportation for this annual camp!

WSU head coach Ryan Kelley said, “It was an exciting and action-packed week of baseball at our annual summer camp. We hope all participants enjoyed spending their time with us in a combined MLB and NCAA environment in our great baseball city of Detroit! I would like to thank the Detroit Tigers Foundation for outstanding leadership, support, and a commitment to helping provide a great experience for all participants. I would also like to thank all of our camp staff, which included current and former NCAA baseball student-athletes, high school coaches, select youth coaches, and former professional baseball players. Plus, Trinity Transportation was instrumental in helping with our ground transportation during camp. On behalf of our camp staff, I would like to wish all participants a great deal of success on and off the field for the remainder of this summer and look forward to seeing you again at future events.”

The week filled with baseball was a success and we are so happy to have been a part of it!

Trinity Transportation Donates 10 Laptops to River Rouge Seniors

Thursday, June 7th, 2018

On June 6th, 2018, River Rouge School District hosted their annual Student of the Month event where students were honored for their academic excellence. Trinity Transportation was in attendance and donated 10 laptops to graduating seniors. The event was held at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan, where dinner and refreshments were served to attendees.

The evening was full of gratitude for administrators, parents, corporate partners, and staff for all of their hard work throughout the school year. The students also received from the principals of their individual schools recognition for going above and beyond this school year.

When it was time for the principal of River Rouge High School to make his speech, he acknowledged the students form each grade, saving the seniors for last. The seniors were commended for their academic achievements, then the announcement was made that Trinity would be giving laptops to the graduating seniors. These students are attending colleges across the country, including Howard University, Eastern Michigan University, Tennessee State University, Wayne State University, and Henry Ford College, and majoring in various subjects such as pre-nursing, pre-law, and robotics. Dave Holls, chief operating officer at Trinity, took to the podium to congratulate all of the students and to hand out the laptops to the seniors.

Trinity Transportation Participates in Gleaners’ Annual Food Fight!

Friday, April 20th, 2018

Gleaners Community Food Bank works hard every day to provide meals to families in need in Southeast Michigan. The holidays are a popular time for food donations, but the contributions tend to slow down in the spring. To help combat the decrease in donations, Gleaners hosts their Food Fight every year, where companies and organizations participate in a friendly competition to raise the most meals through food and monetary donations.

This year, Trinity participated in the Food Fight with 31 other organizations and companies to help ensure families don’t have to go without a meal this spring. We raised 500 pounds of food, which equals out to 415 meals!

Every season can be the season of giving – those in need in our community need food year round, and food banks like Gleaners are always accepting donations. We are proud to have helped in their efforts to feed our community!
