Trinity Transportation Lands Contract for Detroit Public Schools, Plans to Hire over 200 Bus Drivers

Trinity Transportation has been awarded a contract with Detroit Public Schools to handle over 100 school bus routes throughout the school district.

The contract will begin at the start of the 2015-2016 school year. Trinity will be running their services out of two DPS terminals that they will be taking over in the fall.

Trinity Owner and President Jerry Sheppard’s knowledge of the transportation industry in Detroit is extensive and he feels that Trinity was the perfect fit for Detroit Public Schools’ transportation.

“Trinity Transportation has had the pleasure of serving Southeast Michigan for over 30 years,” Sheppard said. “We are thrilled to welcome Detroit Public Schools to our family and continue serving the metro Detroit area.”

The company currently services several academies in Detroit and many businesses based in the city, according to Trinity Sales Director Austin Arksey.

“We are pleased to be involved with Detroit Public Schools during the revitalization of the city,” Arksey said. “Many great things are happening downtown and we are excited to be on board.”

Trinity plans to hire more than 200 school bus drivers this summer to serve Detroit Public Schools.

“We are really excited to bring on current drivers for DPS, as well as new drivers, to become a part of the Trinity team,” said Adina Allen, Trinity Transportation’s human resources manager.

Trinity Transportation is active in over 100 school districts and safely transports more than 10,000 students each day.

One Day at Summer Camp…

As school comes to an end and summer vacation begins for kids, some parents are left asking, “What is my child going to do all summer long?” One option that some parents opt into is summer camp.

Essentially, your child could attend two different types of camps: “day camp” or “sleep-away camp.” At a day camp, the child would spend 8-9 hours there and then come home in the evening time, just long enough for a parent to go to and come back from work. Then you have sleep-away camps, where your child can spend the night, often times in a cabin with other camp mates.

No matter what type of summer camp you choose for your child, there are many benefits that come along with going to camp.

  • Teaching teamwork and independence: Camp gives your children the opportunity to mingle and work with not just other kids, but with mentors and camp counselors that continue to hone their social skills. At the same time, your child will gain independence by being away from home and on their own..
  • Staying physically fit: It’s very easy for a child to sit at home all summer watching TV and playing on his or her iPad. At camp, there’s no chance of that happening. Depending on the weather and type of camp they attend, they will most likely spend most of their time outside either playing sports with other kids or exploring nature. Lots of camp activities are built around physical activity which will help keep your child healthy during their growing years.
  • Feeling a sense of belonging: It’s easy during the summer time for a child to become bored and for them to feel left out because they don’t see their friends every day and their parents are away at work. At camp, they normally emphasize a “family environment” among the campers, and this can help a child feel a sense of belonging. If you find your child to be quiet and reserved, they can feel more comfortable around other children their own age.

Trinity Transportation Donates 9 Laptops to Graduating Seniors

Last night, River Rouge School District hosted a “Student of the Month” event where they recognized students from elementary, middle, and high school for their academic excellence. Trinity Transportation was in attendance and donated 9 laptops to the seniors that were there. The event was held at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan, and dinner was provided for the students and their parents.

The program consisted of River Rouge administrators thanking their corporate partners, parents, and exceptional staff for all of the hard work over the past school year. Then, the principal from each River Rouge school stepped up to the podium to acknowledge the students from their respective schools.

The last principal to praise his students was Principal Michael Mokdad from River Rouge High School. He went through his list of freshman, sophomores, and juniors, saving the seniors for the end. Little did the seniors know, they were not just receiving praise for their academic excellence.

Before Principal Mokdad called their names, Austin Arksey, the Director of Sales for Trinity Transportation stepped up to the mic. Austin gave the graduating seniors advice on how to succeed in college and why it’s important to focus “not on what you do, but how you go about doing it.”

“Students are the future of our society,” said Arksey. “It’s important for parents, teachers, and mentors to help pave the way for young people to become successful leaders of tomorrow.”

He then announced that Trinity Transportation would be donating 9 laptops to the graduating seniors, who were attending universities such as Western Michigan University, Michigan State University, and University of Michigan-Dearborn. Austin told them that he cannot wait to see each of them grow and continue to exude excellence in whatever they do in life.

Trinity Transportation has worked closely with River Rouge Schools to provide them safe and reliable transportation. We are a proud community partner for River Rouge Schools and continue to invest in the children of our community.
